How Disability inclusive is the Dutch Development sector? In 2016 the Dutch government ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). The Ministry of Dutch Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation also has the responsibility to respect and promote the rights of people with disabilities in their policies and programmes. In cooperation with the Dutch Coalition on Disability and Development (DCDD) we lobby for inclusion in the Dutch Development Sector. The publication: “An Untapped Potential” focuses on what steps were taken since ratification of the UNCRPD. One of the conclusions is that the Dutch government fails to take the rights of people with disabilities into account: Programmes aimed at disability inclusion represent only approximately 2% of the total Dutch Offical Development Assistence budget.
