On September 20th, Plan International will host a webinar to hear about two programmes for young children with a disability:
- In Mozambique, Plan worked with Uhambo Foundation (South Africa), Light for the World and the support of FLNO to support existing community pre-schools to become disability-inclusive. The project is notable for how it engaged Community Based Rehabilitation workers and families, and for how the community pre-school educators were supported to work not only with children with mild/moderate disabilities but also with children with severe or multiple disabilities. The project was very short (one year) but has provided rich learning from which the team has developed a set of practical recommendations for action, which we are sure will be useful for other countries! Read the report here: Including children in preschool education. Experiences of Plan International Mozambique.
- In Sri Lanka, Plan worked with a leading University and the Ministry of Education to implement a programme through which pre-school teachers were trained to monitor children’s developmental progress, identify children at risk of disability, and provide quality early learning opportunities for children with a disability.
